The Collective Conversation May 2026

Five Nonprofit Solar Installations Completed in April and May!

Since 2011, CollectiveSun has been helping nonprofits go solar. We’ve proudly facilitated solar projects for over 200 nonprofits spanning 24 states. Now, we are pleased to welcome five new organizations in Arizona, California, and New York to our family of completed projects, with more to come: Rainbow Acres, San Jerardo Cooperative, Vista Community Clinic, Red Hook VFW, and Butte Humane Society

All of these organizations are now powering their operations with clean energy from the sun, which will provide them electricity bill savings — allowing them to focus more financial resources on their important missions.

We’d like to thank our partners at BQuest Foundation, whose generous participation made the loans for these projects possible.

Solar Leads the Way as Renewables Make Big Gains

In 2025, record-breaking solar was the main driver for global renewables generation exceeding coal generation for the first time. The U.S. Energy Information Administration expects solar energy generation in this country to grow 17% this summer over 2025. So far in 2026, clean electricity is on the rise — with clean-power sources generating more electricity than fossil-fuel plants for the first time in March. Distributed solar, like the installations for nonprofits, could help continue this trend; last year, small-scale solar installations accounted for 19% of the total solar capacity added to the national grid.

Electricity Rates Keep Rising in Ongoing Trend

By 2050, electricity consumption could grow by 55% — one of the drivers of rising electricity costs. Other factors include our aging electric grid and the Iran war. In February, average electricity prices rose 9% year over year, with some states seeing much steeper increases. Meanwhile, Nordic countries have lowered the cost of electricity by deploying more renewables, in some cases driving prices below zero. Could we do that here?

How Commercial-scale Solar Can Help Lower Electricity Costs

Commercial-scale solar, like the projects deployed for nonprofits, could play an important role in lowering electricity costs; in Pennsylvania, developers say they could build gigawatts of projects to help ease the state’s power crunch and lower bills. With commercial electricity use set to surpass residential in 2027, now is a good time to continue the trend of installing commercial-scale solar across the nation.

CollectiveSun helps make solar for nonprofits a reality! Our innovative approach helps these organizations secure affordable financing and streamline project implementation.
